First Internet Bank promotes David Bybee to lead SBA lending operations

First Internet Bank has promoted David Bybee to Senior Vice President of Government Guaranteed Lending, where he’ll oversee all aspects of the bank’s SBA lending operations.

Under Bybee’s leadership, First Internet Bank has become one of the nation’s Top 10 SBA 7(a) lenders. “Since his arrival, David has been a driving force behind our growth, helping us to become one of the nation’s Top 10 SBA 7(a) lenders,” says President and Chief Operating Officer Nicole Lorch. “His expertise in SBA lending, coupled with his outstanding leadership skills and risk perspective, make him the ideal person to lead our high-achieving SBA team.”

Bybee adds, “I am honored to assume this new role and excited to take on these additional responsibilities. Our SBA lending team has attained tremendous success in a short period of time, increasing our total funded 7(a) production to $610 million in 2024, a 44% increase year over year. However, what is even more impressive to me is our team’s commitment to serving the small business community.”

Bybee brings extensive experience to his new position. He previously served in various leadership roles, most recently as Vice President, Senior Credit Officer at First Internet Bank. His career includes 17 years in bank supervision roles with the Federal Reserve Bank, as well as positions at Atlantic Capital Bank, SouthState Bank, and other financial institutions in the Southeast.

David is a graduate of Southern Methodist University.

Brian Burke Retires after a 33-Year SBA Lending Career

After a distinguished 45-year career in business—33 of those dedicated to SBA lending—Brian Burke, Vice President and Business Development Officer at Byline Bank’s Small Business Capital division, has announced his retirement from full-time employment, effective February 28, 2025.

Brian began his professional career in real estate sales and development before graduating from Regis University in 1979. Following that, he spent more than two years in Australia managing family-owned sheep and cattle ranching operations. In 1987, he launched his formal banking career as a commercial loan analyst with United Bank of Denver (now Wells Fargo). Over the years, Brian has worked with numerous national, regional, and local banks, SBA lending organizations, and consulting firms, including serving as National SBA Manager at Bank One before its merger with Chase in 2004. He also co-founded sbaAccess and sbaOpen (sold to nCino) and worked with Community Reinvestment Fund, among other ventures.

Looking ahead, Brian plans to stay connected to the SBA industry by brokering eligible transactions to Byline Bank and other trusted lenders within his network. 

Additionally, Brian and his wife, Jean, are eager to spend more time with their grandchildren and extended family. They also plan to embark on domestic and international travel in the coming years.  J. Adalberto Quijada Retires from SBA after 30 Years of Public Service

After an esteemed public service career spanning nearly 30 years, District Director J. Adalberto Quijada has announced his retirement from the SBA Orange County/Inland Empire District. His dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to supporting small businesses and fostering economic growth have left an indelible mark on the region’s entrepreneurial community.

Quijada began his federal career with the United States Postal Service, where he developed and implemented a nationally recognized program. Quijada held several senior positions in the USPS before being appointed in 2002 as Deputy Director of SBA’s Los Angeles District, one of the largest in the country. Subsequently, he was appointed as Director of the San Antonio District.

In 2005, Quijada was appointed as Director for the Orange County/Inland Empire District, where he transformed office operations, resulting in it becoming one of the top ranked offices in the country.

“Serving the public and especially the small business community for the past three decades has been the honor of a lifetime,” said Quijada. “I am grateful for my colleagues, community partners, and business owners who have made this journey so fulfilling. I’m especially thankful for the many friendships forged over the years. As I step into the next phase of my career in the private sector, I look forward to continuing to support the entrepreneurial spirit in different capacities.”

Tammy Laizure Retires from USDA, Rural Business Cooperative Service

In an email to Bob Coleman, Tammy writes, “After starting my adult working career over 46 years ago I have decided it’s time to retire – today (Feb 28th) is my last workday.  

“My husband and I have no grand plans, mainly just to enjoy our family and friends and hopefully have continued good health to enjoy many more bike rides and day hikes.

“I wanted to say ‘thank you’ and to tell you how much I have appreciated our collaboration over the years.”
