Kris Roglieri Seeks Release After Being Detained for 7 Weeks – Fraud Friday
Kris Roglieri is seeking a new detention hearing with hopes of being released from jail according to an update from the Times Union. He was arrested for one count of wire fraud at the end of May in connection to a $5 million payment from a business that he allegedly misappropriated. Several civil cases accuse him of misappropriating more than $100 million.
Though most in his place would be released on bail, Kris Roglieri was not given that option after threatening an FBI agent. During an FBI raid, dozens of guns were found, including an assault rifle that led to two felony charges for owning an illegal assault rifle and an ammo magazine. This paired with threatening the life of an FBI agent was sufficient information to keep him jailed.
The Times Union reports that Roglieri’s attorney submitted letters from Roglieri’s friends and family to support his behavior and character. His attorney also argues that he is not being charged for a violent crime, and he does not have a criminal history.
Roglieri’s previous attorney wrote a statement saying that he does not believe Roglieri is a threat. “The unfortunate texts he wrote which have been construed as threats against others were a surprise to me,” says the statement. “He has no criminal background and I never heard him voice one adverse comment about an agent or government official. He frequently vented about the injustice of losing all of his assets.”
Another came to his defense, his girlfriend Linda Oliver. She says “In my presence he has never been violent, threatening, or self-destructive.” If he is released, she stated that he will come live with her in Poughkeepsie.
His brother, Dr. Joseph Roglieri, wrote that Kris is a church-going family man and asked for his release.
“Kris has been incarcerated for over three weeks and has not seen his children during this time,” writes Joseph. “The emotional suffering of his children is evident and should be taken into consideration. As a father, I cannot imagine the toll of not seeing or being a part of their daily lives.”
The specific case of alleged fraud that he was criminally charged for occurred in December 2023, after countless other businesses had already filed civil litigation against Roglieri and Prime Capital. There will likely be more charges in the future for the other alleged instances of fraud.
