SBA Wants $58 Billion in Lending in 2025 and a New Direct Lending Program

The President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is requesting $58 billion for the 7(a), 504, Small Business Investment Company (SBIC), and Microloan programs. This includes a 16% increase in the authorized lending level for the SBIC program.

There was no specific information as to what the direct 7(a) lending program would entail, but the program’s purpose would be to “further enable SBA to address gaps in access to small dollar lending.”

The 2025 Budget would provide the necessary resources for the Inspector General to continue their work managing, overseeing, and investigating potential fraud.

Other allocations include:

  • $15.5 million to support veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) certifications and recertifications.
  • $20 million to the Community Navigator Pilot Program.
  • $30 million to support the Growth Accelerator Fund Competition, Regional Innovation Clusters, and the Federal and State Technology Partnership Program.
