Miriam Torres Baltys Named Coleman SBA Woman Lender of the Year

Miriam Torres Baltys

Miriam Torres Baltys

CDC Small Business Finance

From Momentus’ nominating statement, “With a career spanning over 20 years dedicated to serving small businesses, Miriam Torres Baltys stands as a prominent figure in the field of SBA small business lending. She is as well-known for how transformative she is in helping small business owners as she is for her vast SBA knowledge. Miriam has the unique ability to identify untapped potential in underserved communities that many larger banks reject out of hand. Her tenacity in securing funding for entrepreneurs, especially those who’ve been rejected multiple times by traditional lenders, has resulted in Miriam becoming Southern California’s go-to lender for Community Advantage SBLC loans and SBA Microloans.

In 2024 alone, Miriam secured financing for 52 loans totalling over $8 million through CDC Small Business Finance, part of the Momentus Capital branded family of organizations. Since starting with the organization in January 2018, Miriam has procured funding for 339 loans totalling over $47 million. The impact of her work can be seen in the creation and retention of approximately 1,571 jobs over the past six years.

What sets Miriam apart is her deep-rooted commitment to helping others and making a genuine difference in their lives. For her, small business lending is more than a job. It is a space that allows her to help others, to treat people as she herself would want to be treated, to share her knowledge and experience, and live a balanced life. ‘I’m in a time in my life where all these things line up,’ she says. ‘I get to make a palpable difference on a daily basis in small business owners’ lives, in their employees’ lives and in our community.’

Miriam was named the ‘Financial Services Champion of the Year’ in 2023 by the SBA’s San Diego District Office. Her community involvement doesn’t end with lending. She also dedicates time to programs such as Connect’s XEO Leadership Training and the Chicano Federation Leadership Training Institute (2023-24).”
