From his LinkedIn post…..
“After a lot of soul searching, I have made the decision to retire from the Small Business Administration at the end of the month. This July will be 35 years since I first started working for the government and for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). During the early 1990’s, banks were failing across New England every Friday and I was part of closing teams for a number of failed banks and a Section Chief leading a team charged with liquidating failed bank assets. I then moved over to the SBA first with the CT office and then for the next 26+ years with the MA office. During my time with SBA, in 2002 it was helping small businesses to recover after 9/11 with our STAR loans, and in 2005 we helped with processing of Hurricane Katrina loans out of the MA office and in 2008, at the height of the economic crisis, the SBA helped to jumpstart frozen credit and lending markets by providing higher loan guarantees and no fees and even 100% guaranteed ARC loans (America’s Recovery Capital). Fast forward to the Covid pandemic, and SBA was at it again with a mission to save the US economy by helping small businesses to survive. In MA alone, my team helped to deliver $32 Billion in capital through PPP’s, EIDL’s, RRF’s and SVOG’s. With each day, my team and I cheered the small successes, and the words of gratitude flowed in with so many saying that without the SBA they would not be here. But even during the regular years, we helped the Commonwealth’s businesses to access capital and technical assistance and government contracts and the economic impact of the MA SBA regularly hit almost a Billion a year – just in MA. Oh how I have loved working for SBA and helping the little guy, lifting up those that needed help navigating government bureaucracy, helping so many small business owners trying to realize the American Dream through entrepreneurship. I will miss many many friends from across the US and will miss my MA team incredibly. We are all passionate government servants who all took an oath to serve and that we did with passion, pride and a dedication!! I am truly humbled that a poor kid from Providence was given the opportunity to dedicate my life, career and energy into the SBA and small business and for being able to do something that has made a difference in people’s lives. Thank you all for your support over this incredible career and journey. I have no regrets….just wish me luck with a smooth transition into retirement life…….I hear it is kind of nice. 🙂”
