The introduction of “global cash flow” in the SOP last January places a higher degree of due diligence by the SBA loan underwriter in documenting the loan approval.
“Global cash flow analysis that includes assessment of impact on cash flow to/from any affiliate business,” must be performed says the agency.
For loans greater than $50,000 global cash flow coverage must exceed 1:1 on a projected basis.
Oh, and the lender must document in the loan file the “definition or formula used to calculate global cash flow.”
Further complicating its guidance, SBA directs the underwriter to calculate global cash based on historical financial statements AND/OR, tax returns.
So, choose your poison! Use the financial statement, or the tax return!
This new Coleman webinar will teach you how to calculate global cash flow based completely from the borrower’s business, personal and affiliated IRS tax returns.
This webinar fully complies with the intention of the SOP concerning a lender’s responsibility to evaluate global cash flow of the prospective borrower’s entities.
We all want high-quality financial statements, but sometimes that’s not an option. You may have an unsophisticated borrower. You may have an affiliated entity that does not prepare financial statements, only tax returns. In those situations, SBA will allow you to calculate cash flow based on the tax returns.
The specific benefits from this webinar include:
You will learn how to calculate global cash flow from the applicant’s tax returns
You will learn how to document your calculations per SBA’s intent
You will learn the differences of SBA’s policies for loans less than, and greater than $50,000
In addition to SBA rules, the webinar will address broader global cash flow issues:
• How to calculate cash
• What additions and subtractions to cash flow analysis are appropriate
• Are you getting away from the numbers and being too creative in documenting the all important cash coverage ratios?
• Review of “Rule of Thumb” cash flow evaluation and its advantages /disadvantages
• Discussion about Universal Credit Analysis model and its capability of providing more in-depth information
• How to model a global cash flow evaluation of borrower’s debt repayment ability taking into account owner’s personal cash flow and obligations;
• Policy considerations each lender should explore about how to treat owner cash flow and its potential to impact business;
Who should attend:
Commercial Loan Underwriters
SBA Loan Underwriters
Small Business Lending Department Managers
Credit Risk Managers
Chief Credit Officers
This webinar is rated “EXPERT” for all attendees.
