Michael Barrera Named SBA District Director for Northern Florida

“Economic prosperity for entrepreneurs is critical for our local communities and our nation’s economy,” says Michael Barrera. “I look forward to working with all of our resource partners in order to provide tools that will assist small businesses in Northern Florida start and grow their businesses and achieve their American dream.”

Barrera was selected to serve as SBA District Director in North Florida in November 2020. In his new role, he will oversee the implementation of SBA programs across 43-counties and will be responsible for the oversight of approximately a billion dollars of annual federal contracting dollars and over $500M of annual lending guarantees.

Barrera has an extensive history with the small business community. He previously served as the SBA’s third National Ombudsman from 2001 to 2005, where his office assisted small businesses who were subject to overburdensome federal regulations. He also served as the first director of the agency’s Business MatchMaking program from 2003 to 2005 and as an internal Ombudsman for SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance employees in 2017 and 2018.

Ryan Fox Joins BankProv Small Business Lending Team

At BankProv, Fox will join the Small Business Lending Team based in Bedford, New Hampshire, where he will assist small businesses with the steps needed to purchase or expand their businesses.

Fox joined BankProv in November 2020, having spent most of his career at William Fox & Co., a family-owned business in Washington, D.C. His experience managing a small business for more than a decade gives him the first-hand insight, knowledge and understanding of the challenges that face small business owners daily. Fox is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and has also held positions at Alternative Care at Home and Dolly Road Partners.

Redwood Credit Union Promotes Fong Nguyen to Lending Operations Manager

“Fong’s role is one that supports members in a way they don’t always see, but is critical for excellent service,” says Jennifer Boyle, vice president of lending operations at Redwood Credit Union. “She ensures loans move swiftly through the documentation process and sees that they’re properly administered once funded. We know she’s highly skilled and we’re thrilled to have her lead this team.”

In her new role, Nguyen will lead the lending operations team, responsible for loan documentation, funding, and servicing for Redwood Credit Union’s small business, consumer, and mortgage lending channels. 

Prior to her promotion, Nguyen was Assistant Manager of Redwood Credit Union’s  SBA and Commercial loan portfolio. During the pandemic, Nguyen aided the Credit Union in securing SBA funding for more than 2,100 Paycheck Protection Program loans, preserving more than 9,000 local jobs in northern California.
