Here is a quick profile of the Rural Community Assistance Corporation.

West Sacramento based RCAC is dedicated to the Indigenous communities in the western United States by providing technical training and financial resources.

The non-profit recently accepted a $50,000 grant from American Express for it’s mission.

“American Express is an important partner, and we are grateful for its continued support,” says Suzanne Anarde, RCAC Chief Executive Officer. “This grant enables us to continue creating catalytic projects and cultivating a sustainable economic development environment in disadvantaged communities.”

The $50k grant will support 20 new small businesses through its Building Rural Economies (BRE) program. Specifically, it will serve racially underrepresented and ethnically diverse communities in these rural areas.

The BRE program helps underserved rural and Indigenous communities of under 50,000 gain access to assets and local resources, get entrepreneurial training and business coaching, and receive technical assistance. The efforts help bring about long-lasting economic change by providing the catalysts for further development and investment.

Since its founding in 1978, RCAC has focused explicitly on small rural and Indigenous communities in 13 western states, including Alaska and Hawaii. RCAC partners with communities and local agencies to positively impact the quality of life through multiple avenues, including technical assistance and training for environmental infrastructure, affordable housing development, economic and leadership development, and financial support for community development.
