Writing the SBA 7(a) Credit Memo for Loans Less than $50k – 1/8/25
Managing Your SBA Small Loan Programs
A Coleman Webinar
Date: Wednesday, January 8, 2025
Time: 2:00 p.m. Eastern
Includes e-certification & recording
SBA 7(a) loans under $50,000 account for 29% of all loans by number and 2% by loan volume. The SBA continues to encourage lenders to make loans under $50,000 by offering incentives such as higher guaranty percentages, higher interest rate spreads, and a lender-friendly credit box.
Now is the time to take a close look at this loan product niche and see how you can maximize its utility for 2025, both for your borrowers and for your SBA loan department’s performance. Recent changes include a continuation of waiving the guarantee fee and giving lenders more authority to structure the program to best suit their needs and their customers’ needs.
We will also include a discussion on using the SBA FICO credit score or developing an alternative internal score. As always with SBA, it is important that you follow the rules to protect the loan guarantee.
This webinar focuses on the exact documentation required by SBA in the underwriting memo and lenders’ responsibilities in closing and servicing the loan. We will also compare and contrast the SBA small loan program with the SBA’s microloan program for loans under $50,000 and, of course, compare and contrast your small loan program with the SBA Express loan product.
This webinar will thoroughly discuss the following topics:
- Guarantee percentages
- Interest rates
- Loan terms and conditions
- Structuring a loan program under SBA’s “do what you do” policy
- Internal lender credit scoring options
